the storms

Last night, there was a huge line of storms that spanned North to South in the midwest. It traveled east across 5-6 states and destroyed so much. So many people lost their lives, loved ones, and homes.

My parents wanted me, their oldest and favorite daughter :) at home with them in case we needed to go to the basement with the storms heading our way. I had to work last night, so I slept at their house all day.  My dad had taken my car back to my house and left it in my garage so it wouldn't get hit with pea-sized, golf ball, tea-cup, soft-ball sized hail. {If you live in central KY, then you understand the different sized hail humor...thanks Bill Meck!} When I woke up, he drove me home quickly so I could shower, and he could grab fast food for dinner. My grandparents and aunt were also at my parents for safekeeping. Sister was with her BFF in a friend's basement--they were let out of a work class early and headed underground!

I packed a quick "overnight" bag of my things to get ready for work. I also grabbed a few valuables to keep at my parents in their basement. Ya know, I couldn't lose my computer--it has my documented memories on it--aka pictures!! And I grabbed a pair of earrings my parents got me for graduation. They have sentimental meaning! Annndd...they were expensive! If I could've run out with my 60inch TV I would've grabbed that too! {Wouldn't that be a sight!?}

When I got back to my parents I quickly got ready for work and realized I had forgotten my volumizing hair rollers! AHH! What's important here!? Big hair or safety!?

So, I was almost done and my mom yells at me to come downstairs! They had seen the rain start to swirl out back. So scary. I've never had to go in the basement for this eery of weather before! After it settled, we all went back upstairs and listened to more weather reports. Luckily, Stella is not afraid of thunder...she's a trooper! We stayed in the basement for about 5-10 minutes for the rain and dark skies to pass and then went back upstairs.

Thankfully, my other grandparents who live in Louisville, KY were safe and untouched by the horrendous weather. I also have family right across the river in Indiana, who were also safe. {There was serious damage in S. IN}

At work we were on a mass causality alert. We were admitting patients from all over the state where other hospitals were at max capacity. It was a crazy night! People were admitted with no identification/name, and no idea how their injuries happened. I hope their families find them soon!

I was so saddened to hear reports of the destruction in Indiana and West Liberty, Ky. There were other towns that were hit too, and my thoughts and prayers go out to all the families affected everywhere.

  1. Us southern girls always have to look our best, no matter the situation!! ;) So glad you and your family are ok. We had tornado watches all day yesterday until 11, it was so scary. I am so sad for those that lost everything & those who lost their lives.

  3. Glad you're safe! Big hair is always a must. My grandparents went to the BG mall because it has a tornado shelter in it and my grandmother had stuffed her purse full of all of her valuable jewelry! I would do the exact same thing!
